Mbabane: Family feuds continue to be amongst the reasons for the rise in Gender-Based Violence (GBV) senses amongst married couples.

On Sunday Pastor Sikhumbuzo Shongwe shoot his wife Jabulile Nkonyane which he claimed was on self-defense.

It is believed that Pastor Sikhumbuzo Shongwe fired five gunshots at his wife yesterday, it was gathered that three of them hit Nkonyane and were lodged in her body. One of the shots was said to have been lodged in her head, another in her arm while the last was lodged in her torso. Another shot was alleged to have injured a male who was with Nkonyane in the arm.

Reliably, sources said it was not the first time Bishop Nash son’s tried to shot his wife. Jabulile Nkonyana, the wife of Skhumbuzo Shongwe is currently recuperating in the Manzini clinic.

A neighbor who didn’t want to be named, said sometimes last year after they heard the gunshot, Jabulile Nkonyana comes running to hide after two gunshots missed her.

“We request to call the police but the wife refused, citing that her husband has a lot of connections within the Police station in Manzini” said the neighbor.

Sikhumbuzo Shongwe, the son of Bishop Nash Shongwe of Divine healing Ministries, a well-known pastor, now a member of All Nations Christian Church, owned by Archbishop Bheki Lukhele.

The incident is alleged to have occurred on Sunday at Pastor Sikhumbuzo’s house in Manzini after an argument with his wife.

Information gathered by the time of compiling this report is to the fact that his wife came to his compound to confront him on issues that were ongoing within them, after a heated argument Sikhumbuzo is said to have opened fire acting on self-defense.

After the incident Pastor Sikhumbuzo is said to be hiding but is said to have handed himself to the police on Monday. The Police Information Communications Officer confirmed the incident

Nkonyane was allegedly rushed to Manzini Clinic soon after being shot.

The couple’s disagreements have been making newspaper headlines where the couple is said to be involved in a tense family feud.

The dramatic scene took place at Shongwe’s place of residence at Moneni. His wife Jabulile, who he has been entangled in a bitter court dispute with Shongwe, is battling for her life at Manzini Clinic where she was rushed to after the ordeal. Her brother who had accompanied her to the scene was admitted at RFM Hospital with a gunshot wound on the arm.

Shongwe, when speaking to one of our reporters confirmed the incident, claiming it was in self-defense after Jabulile came with his brothers to attack him.

Even though it was not ascertained the reasons why Nkonyane and her brothers visited Shongwe, it is suspected that it was in relation to the Sunday Observer article where it is claimed a court order was issued against Zweli Tsabedze to stop seeing Jabulile.

In the court interdict, Shongwe accused Tsabedze of seeing or having a relationship with his estranged wife.

Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the arrest after the suspect was handed over by his father.

Information gathered at the scene was that Nkonyane who was accompanied by her alleged relatives went to the house to get some work documents and they had a disagreement with Shongwe which resulted in the shooting.
