Even though it was not ascertained the reasons why Nkonyane and her brothers visited Shongwe, it is suspected that it was in relation to the Sunday Observer article where it is claimed a court order was issued against Zweli Tsabedze to stop seeing Jabulile.

In the court interdict, Shongwe accused Tsabedze of seeing or having a relationship with his estranged wife.

Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the arrest after the suspect was handed over by his father.

Information gathered at the scene was that Nkonyane who was accompanied by her alleged relatives went to the house to get some work documents and they had a disagreement with Shongwe which resulted in the shooting.
