Nhlangano: Plans are underway for the youth in the Shiselweni region to petition the Shiselweni Regional Administrator (RA).
The current regional Administrator for the Shiselweni Region is Peter Mamba. Through a joint statement, the Shiselweni youth have announced that the struggle continues as they have agreed to work together to organize a march to the offices of the Regional Administrator in Nhlangano. The Shiselweni region has 15 Tinkhundla centers and as the regain administrator holds the seat of power in the region, all the petitions that have been delivered to the Tinkhundla centers within the region will be collected and delivered to him.
The youth said they will summarise all of the petitions into one set of demands which will be representative of the aspirations of the people of Shiselweni. “We are doing this so that we maximize on our unity, strength, skills, and resources,” the statement reads.
They perceive themselves as good soldiers, they chose their battle – to call for regime change.
In this regard, they said they have agreed that they will lobby the other regions to also do regional marches and eventually work towards a national march which they have proposed must be during the independence week in September so that “we use that time to demand real independence.”
“As leaders, coordinators, and organizers from the various Tinkhundla, informed by the reports that we got from the various activities we have realized that there is a common urgent matter that we need to raise when we go to the RA offices,” further reads the statement.
According to the statement, they are doing this so that as a region they speak with one voice and are united behind a common agenda.
They went on to say they reject that these marches which are ongoing around the country are just youth. They said that in many communities elderly people also came out and spoke at the marches because they also have their own issues where they demand grants to be increased to E1500 per month.
They said that the fact that young people are in the forefront comes naturally since they are the ones who stand to benefit more from a free Eswatini.
They said they are doing their duty to the nation. All countries that are free today were liberated after their youth said “it’s enough”.”
They said this freedom and democracy they are fighting for is for the young and old, women and men, Christian, Muslims, and non-believers. “It’s freedom for all Swazis that we want. They are only singling out the youth because they are scared of your power.”
They said they have picked up and dusted themselves and they are in the frontline while everyone is watching.
“The pressure is on, the country’s authorities and Cabinet are feeling it. They got it all, they believe it when they fall they have vowed to get up.”
Arguably, this sum-up what Eswatini youth through staging the widespread protest marches and petitioning their MPs are doing? They are not prepared to relent this time and are determined to see Eswatini democratized and the falling of Tinkhundla System of Government.
In an effort to loud their voice, Shiselweni Tinkhundla people have decided to come together to work as a unit to push the democratization of Eswatini.
