Acting Prime Minister Themba Nhlanganiso Masuku

Lobamba: Acting Prime Minister Themba Nhlanganiso Masuku says attacks on Members of Parliament, including himself, from social media platforms where they are being hurled with unfathomable insults and threats is a clear definition of cyber bullying and should not be encouraged.

Masuku was speaking on Tuesday when he was addressing and updating the august House on issues of national interest that have arisen over the past two weeks.

Masuku statement comes after those partaking in the #JusticeforThabani movement have taken advantage of social media to engage their Members of Parliament (MPs) on their silence on the matter.

The social media users had created a WhatsApp group where they added all the MPs contacts numbers. Besides the group, the contacts numbers of the MPs were paraded on social media, including that of the Acting Prime Minister.

Understandable

He said it was understandable these events have triggered the emotions of a lot of people. “We equally want justice to prevail in the death of Thabani Nkomonye and we plead with anyone with evidence to quickly register with the Coroner and present their evidence.”

The setting up of a Judicial Inquest is in accordance with the same laws passed in this Parliament which everyone is expected to respect.

“Understandably, as human beings we are creatures driven by emotions. At the height of these emotions, and when we are fired up, we can either spread love or hate, we can either build or destroy and we can either nurture or annihilate. It is at this time that we should strive to rise above our emotions and ensure that our decisions and actions are rational. It is easy to insult than to apologize, easy to destroy than build, easy to point fingers than take responsibility, yet it is always noble to unite than divide.”

He concluded by saying as a Nation, we should be united than seek to dance in the public gallery at the expense of peace and stability.
