Finally, Eswatini Bank to award prizes

Mbabane: Finally Eswatini Bank Cup, Idlala Kamnadzi 2020 edition will award the quarter finalists their prizes.

The Eswatini Bank, Eswatini Football Association(EFA) and the Premier League of Eswatini(PLE) have reached an agreement to hand over a sum of E200 000 which would be shared equally by the eight teams who were remaining before the tournament was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.

These means each team stands to receive E25 000 and the decision to conclude the tournament also applied to the senior Women’s Cup and the Under 20 category as well.

The awards which include the individual prizes will be handed out on Friday, February 26. The eight teams that will receive the prizes are Mbabane Highlanders, Mbabane Swallows, Green Mamba, Tambuti FC, Madlenya FC, Malanti Chiefs, Moneni Pirates and Young Buffaloes.

The CEO of Eswatini Football Association Frederick’s Mngomezulu confirmed that the decision have been taken to hand out the prizes. “The prizes are to be accorded to the teams that were left when the tournament was halted; which means are the teams that reached the quarter finals” said Mngomezulu.

He went on to say: “The (EFA) would like to take these opportunity to exclusively thank the EswatiniBank for resolving to conclude the competition and we greatly appreciate the continued collaboration, understanding showed by the  EFA members in collaboration with her sponsors and the general football community, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Mngomezulu also urged the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) members and the football community as a whole, to continue complying with the laid down rules and regulation of the COVID-19 as spelled out by the government of the kingdom of Eswatini and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The 2019/20 EswatiniBank Cup  competition edition was the second competition to have its prizes handed out in a similar fashion after the MTN League prizes had to be dished out following  before its formal end after it was cancelled with eight games remaining. By the time it was called off, Young Buffaloes was leading the summit and it was eventually crowned champions of the 2019/2020 season. By virtue of being declare champions, they they got a ticket to represent the country in the Champions League where it was eliminated to the Confederation Cup tournament where they were recently booted out by  Tunisia giants, Etoile Du Sahel with an aggregate score of 4-1.
