Mbabane: The unforgiving scourge of COVID-19 has claimed yet another life of Eswatini’s very own High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa Her Excellency Dumsile Sukati.
“Her Excellency Sukati passed on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at a South African hospital from COVID-19 related complications,” confirmed the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Senator Thulisile Dladla in a statement issued on Friday.
Sukati began her roles of being the ambassador to the Republic of South Africa in 2017 and she carried her roles with her experience in diverse fields ranging from Administration, Accountancy and Politics.
Her political career started off when she was elected as Member of Parliament in 2003 after which she was appointed into Cabinet as Minister of Housing and Urban Development. She was thereafter appointed Minister of Natural Resources and Energy and later High Commissioner to the Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland with further accreditation to the Republics of Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Malta, Norway, Spain and Sweden. Her accreditation also covered the Commonwealth.
Meanwhile Eswatini has lost a significant number of high ranking government officials from the Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini who succumbed to the coronavirus in December 2020.
In January 2021, COVID-19 claimed at least two cabinet Ministers in Christian Ntshangase and Makhosi Vilakati. Ntshangase was the Minister responsible for Public Service while Vilakati was the Minister for Labour and Social Security.
The pandemic has claimed over 500 lives of Emaswati and infections had been reportedly over 15 000 by the end of January.
