Mbabane: The Government of Eswatini’s Spokesperson Sabelo Dlamini has assured the nation that the government has cleared all its arrears with the African Union.
This comes after the Times Sunday reported that the African Union has sanctioned Eswatini from receiving COVID-19 vaccine due to that the country had outstanding payments for subscriptions to the AU. The local newspaper reported that the Kingdom was owing a whooping US$2.4 million (about E36 288 000).
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Corporation Thuli Dladla said told this local newspaper that her counterpart Minister of Finance Neal Rijkenberg had assured her that this arrears would be paid within a week.
Dlamini’s announcement came just within the week assuring the nation on the payment of the arrears.
The African Union is a continental union consisting of 55 member states located on the continent of Africa. The AU was announced in the Sirte Declaration in Sirte, Libya, on 9 September 1999, calling for the establishment of the African Union.
