Mbabane: As the country is in the grips of a second wave of the pandemic, the local health system is getting overstretched over and over again and that is evident by the drastic measures taken by the Mbabane Government Hospital.

This measures includes attending emergencies only and restructuring of services.

This changes were revealed by the memorandum, which this publication had seen. It was issued by the health facility’s management directed to all staff members, dated January 14, 2020.

The memo announced a number of changes to be implemented within the hospital departments and wards.

According to the memo, the adult outpatient department known as OPD had been relocated to ward 5 which was eye ward. The PAEDS outpatient department had been relocated to ward 6 which was the children’s ward prior.

The Gum Clinic, Breast, Skin, and Podiatry Clinics had been relocated to ward 9 which was prior a female ortho ward. Ward 9 and 10 had been merged and relocated to ward 15. While ward 15 and 16 had been merged also and were relocated to ward 16.

The GYNE clinic had been relocated to ward 13 which was the GYNE ward. Then ward18, which is the female medical ward had been relocated to ward 10 which was prior a female surgical ward.

COVID-19

The hospital management further announced that ward 18 will be now used as a COVID-19 spill over ward, while the both the upper lower level of OPD will be utilised as COVID-19 Isolation site.

Patients

Patients were encouraged to use their nearby health facilities and clinics for minor ailments. The public was further encouraged to reduce unnecessary hospital visits as one visitor will be allowed per in-patient per visit.

The management of the hospital advised that patients should be accompanied by only one person/family member.
