MBABANE- Mbabane is preparing to come alive as the Municipal Council of Mbabane gears up for Mbabane Day 2026, a city-wide celebration expected to bring residents together through music, food, culture, sport and family entertainment.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Coronation Park, running from 11:00am until late, with the Council inviting residents, families, visitors and city stakeholders to take part in the festivities.
The celebration is being positioned as more than just an entertainment event, with the Council placing emphasis on community, identity and civic pride under the spirit of “Our City, One Community, One Day.”
According to the Council’s announcement, attendees can expect a programme featuring live entertainment, food and craft stalls, sports and games, cultural activities and family-oriented entertainment.
The event is also expected to provide a platform for local businesses, creatives, food vendors, artisans and community groups to showcase their work and engage with the wider Mbabane community.
A day for the city
Mbabane Day comes as the capital continues to evolve as Eswatini’s administrative, commercial and social centre. The Municipal Council currently manages a range of public facilities and spaces across the city.
This makes the use of Coronation Park for Mbabane Day particularly fitting, turning one of the city’s public spaces into a meeting point for residents from different communities.
The Council has previously used community events to promote social interaction and cohesion. A parliamentary report noted that an earlier Mbabane Day attracted residents through activities including a marathon, fun run, golf and other activities, with the event aimed at strengthening cohesion among residents and stakeholders. The report said this experience encouraged the municipality to plan for a bigger and better Mbabane Day.
More than entertainment
While music is expected to be one of the major attractions, the 2026 edition appears designed to cater for different age groups.
Families can expect dedicated activities, while sports and games will add a recreational element to the day. Food and craft stalls will also create opportunities for vendors and entrepreneurs to connect with a potentially large audience.
For the city’s creative sector, the event could further provide a platform for performers and cultural practitioners to bring Mbabane’s identity to life through music, dance and other forms of expression.
The Council has confirmed that more announcements are still to come, meaning details around the entertainment line-up and additional activities are aexpected to be revealed closer to the event.
