Mbabane – The Swaziland Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (SMVAF) settled 183 claims worth E21.8 million during the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year.
Acting Chief Operations Officer Phindile Mthethwa disclosed the figures during the Fund’s Quarterly Business Review Forum, where she gave an update on its operational performance.
Of the total amount settled, E14.9 million was paid directly to claimants, while E6.9 million was committed through claims undertakings.
Mthethwa said the Fund was also working to improve the processing of claims and reduce backlogs so that accident victims could receive assistance more efficiently.
The Fund’s operations during the quarter also focused on road accident prevention, with road safety inspections, audits and public awareness programmes being conducted.
Quarterly data presented at the forum showed that pedestrian-related incidents, loss of vehicle control and collisions remained among the leading causes of road accidents.
The Fund said the figures highlighted the need for continued road safety education and responsible driving among road users.
It said road safety efforts would continue alongside its work in assisting people affected by road crashes and improving the delivery of services to claimants.
