Manzini– A 45-year-old Kakhoza man has allegedly lost E24 000 after clicking on a Facebook advertisement for a loan and submitting his banking details through a link.
The incident occurred in Manzini on Monday, July 20, 2026, with police now investigating the suspected fraud case.
According to the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS), the victim came across the advertisement on Facebook on Sunday, July 19, 2026. The advertisement allegedly appeared to be from a bank and promised loans of up to E500 000, repayable over a period of 10 years.
Believing the offer to be genuine, the man clicked on the link provided in the advertisement and uploaded his banking details.
The following day, while at work, the complainant allegedly received a notification indicating that a payment had been made into his bank account.
Shortly afterwards, he received another notification showing that money had been transferred from his account to an unknown recipient.
The police suspect that the victim’s banking details may have been compromised, resulting in the unauthorised transfer of E24 000 from his account.
The investigation is continuing.Police have cautioned members of the public to be careful when responding to online loan advertisements and to avoid sharing sensitive banking details through unverified links.
