Lobamba- Government could be required to open up 59 employment opportunities within the security forces for vulnerable emaSwati if a proposal tabled in the House of Assembly is adopted.
Mafutseni Member of Parliament Sabelo Mtsetfwa has called for each of the country’s 59 tinkhundla to be allocated one position in the security forces, with communities identifying deserving beneficiaries who meet the required recruitment criteria.
Mtsetfwa made the proposal during debate on the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office 2026/27 First Quarter Performance Report, where legislators discussed interventions aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable groups.
The MP argued that the initiative would ensure that government employment opportunities reach citizens across all constituencies, particularly those facing economic hardships.
He said a targeted recruitment programme could provide vulnerable emaSwati with a pathway to stable employment while allowing them to contribute to national security services.
The proposal comes amid continued concerns over unemployment and the need for government to expand social support programmes that create sustainable livelihoods.
If approved, the initiative would see each inkhundla responsible for recommending one potential recruit, resulting in 59 possible positions being created across the country.
Parliament is expected to further deliberate on the proposal before a decision is made on whether it should be adopted.
