Standard Bank Eswatini urges MSMEs to embrace innovation to stay competitive
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Mbabane- Standard Bank Eswatini has challenged micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to embrace innovation as a critical driver of business growth, warning that entrepreneurs must adapt to an increasingly digital and competitive economy.

Marking International MSME Day, the bank said innovation is no longer optional for businesses seeking long-term sustainability. It noted that enterprises must continuously improve the way they access finance, adopt digital payment systems, reach new markets and strengthen their operations if they are to remain competitive.

The bank said this year’s MSME Day theme, “Empowering MSMEs through Innovation and Sustainable Industrial Development,” reflects the growing importance of equipping entrepreneurs with practical tools that enable them to expand their businesses rather than simply encouraging business start-ups.

According to the blue bank, innovation extends beyond developing new products or technologies. It also includes adopting efficient business practices, leveraging digital banking platforms, accessing trade finance and embracing sustainable business models that enhance resilience.

Head of Enterprise Banking Setsabile Nhlabatsi said entrepreneurs remain central to Eswatini’s economic future, but their success will increasingly depend on their ability to innovate and respond to changing market demands.

She said Standard bank continues to support businesses through tailored financial solutions, business expertise and strategic partnerships that enable enterprises to build resilient and competitive operations.

The bank added that strengthening innovation among MSMEs has wider economic benefits, including higher productivity, increased employment, stronger domestic supply chains and greater participation in regional and international trade.

The bank concluded by  reaffirming  its commitment to supporting entrepreneurs as they navigate an evolving business landscape, saying businesses that embrace innovation today will be better positioned to drive Eswatini’s industrial development and long-term economic growth.
