Mbabane: They are not referred to as the Football Association financial wing for nothing.
The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) boosted their revenues by a mouthwatering E1 250 438 from just gate collections in their 10 per cent share and fines from disciplinary rulings.
It is worth noting however that the money collected by the PLE through these revenue sources cater for the day to day running of the organisation and paying of match officials’ allowances among other things.
From its levy from gate collections, the PLE made E269 630 in the Ingwenyama Cup that was eventually won by Green Mamba, E468 326 from across the 126 matches played in the MTN Premier League before it was brought to a halt by Covid-19.
Also affected by the novel Coronavirus was the Eswatini Bank Cup which played the last 32 and last 16 round of matches; the PLE getting E56 868 as its levy.
The MTN National First Division is proving to be costly for the PLE as it contributed a mere E9 614 in the past season from the total of E805 438 made by the organisation from match day attendance.
A further E445 000 was made from disciplinary matters though the PLE season report suggest great improvement in teams behaviour. MTN Premier League clubs were fined E310 500 in total while MTN National First Division added E134 000 to the PLE coffers for disciplinary rulings.
In total, E445 000 was made from fines.
Mbabane Swallows received the biggest fine, E37 000 in respect of a Summary Fine. Royal Leopard were set back by E35 000, Moneni Pirates E30 000 and Manzini Wanderers E27 500 by the Disciplinary Committee (DC).
