Mbabane: The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) is proving to be a money spinning organisation as its total sponsorships package stands at a whopping E16 216 000.

The PLE objectives inculcate to promote, organise, control and administrate the Premier League and National First Division irrespective of the race, colour, religion or politics; to coordinate and facilitate the development of professional football and to foster friendly relations among clubs, officials and players.

MTN Eswatini remains the PLE’s main sponsor with a cool E6 million covering both the Premier League and NFD per season. The Ingwenyama Cup, financially rolled by Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (SMVAF) contributes over E3.2 million per year. The other main knockout tournament is the Eswatini Bank Cup with a sponsorship of over E3.4 million which also caters for the Under-20s.

Eswatini Post and Telecommunications Corporation (EPTC) sponsors the traditional season opener with E2.5 million under the banner of its division, Eswatini Telecom Charity Cup.

Esibayeni Lodge sponsors the Under-17 League with E200 000.

In the PLE executive committee summary, Chief Operations Officer (COO) Pat Vilakati admitted the just nullified 2019/20 season was a different one altogether following the worldwide outbreak of Covid-19.

“The continuous efforts by our Board of Governors cannot be overlooked which even during these difficult times continues to run from pillar to post trying to ensure that administrative issues are dealt with accordingly,” Vilakati said.

Eswatini Football Association (EFA) suspended all football activities as of March 31 up until August 20 where the season was declared over.
