MBABANE– Rising cultural music sensation Mkhuleko Mangwe, popularly known as Sancheziey, has shared the inspiration behind his highly anticipated song Halaaalaaa, a celebratory anthem that draws heavily from Swati culture and national pride.

The artist said the song was inspired by the country’s ongoing celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of His Majesty King Mswati III’s reign and the King’s 58th birthday, commonly referred to as the 40/58 celebrations.

“Eswatini is still in a celebratory mood. We are all saying halala for Ingwenyama’s 40 years on the throne and at the same time celebrating His Majesty’s 58th birthday. As a musician, my mood is also in celebration mode,” said Sancheziey.

The artist, who burst onto the music scene in March last year, said he also has personal reasons to celebrate. In just over a year, he has performed on major stages that he once admired from a distance.

Sancheziey highlighted appearances at events such as Makoti Festival and the upcoming MoMo Experience, as well as performing at national events attended by the country’s leadership. He described these opportunities as milestones that have contributed to the growth of his brand, Salukazana.

“God has already blessed me with stages I only saw from afar. I have opened Parliament and performed at events attended by Their Majesties. Those are things I am grateful for, and they give me every reason to say Halaaalaaa,” he said.

Beyond personal achievements, the musician believes the song carries a universal message of celebration. He explained that people constantly have reasons to rejoice, whether they are graduating, getting married, achieving personal goals, or celebrating victories.

“Halaaalaaa is here for all those moments of winning and gratitude,” he said.

One of the song’s most distinctive features is the incorporation of licilongo, a traditional Swati cultural sound. Sancheziey revealed that deeper involvement in cultural practices helped him discover and appreciate the unique sound.

He said his goal is to create music that gives Eswatini a distinctive musical identity recognizable anywhere in the world.

“The vision is to create something that is uniquely Swati. Even if the sound was played in Nigeria or Australia, a culturally grounded Swati person would immediately recognize where it comes from,” he explained.

According to the artist, Halaaalaaa combines traditional elements such as Lifahlawane, Licilongo, Luveve and authentic Swati chants, carefully arranged to reflect and preserve Swati heritage.

He added that the song differs significantly from previous releases such as Siyabonga Gogo and Batawuvuma, as it reflects a deeper understanding of Swati culture gained through active participation in traditional customs.

“This is everything people have not heard before. The song says run, scream, dance and shout. That is the mood it creates,” he said.

Fans eager to hear the song will have to wait a little longer. Sancheziey revealed that Halaaalaaa will be released in August as part of his upcoming UmntfwaneLive Album.

He also announced that album listening sessions will be held before the release, with dates to be announced soon.

The artist said the song perfectly aligns with the style of music he represents.

“Halaaalaaa is the music that I do. Umgidvo is culture, Licilongo is a Swati cultural sound, and Sancheziey is a Swati cultural artist. They all complement each other,” he said.

In closing, Sancheziey encouraged emaSwati to embrace the song and make it part of their celebrations, promising that more culturally rich music is on the way.
