Mbabane: Members of the Parliament expressed their dissatisfaction with the report that was submitted by the Select Committee that was probing the allegations of maladministration and corruption at the Examination Council of Eswatini (ECESWA).
The Members of Parliament expressed their dissatisfaction during the adoption of the report that was delivered by the Khubuta MP Musa Mabuza led committee. The report was initially delivered on Wednesday September 16 and then the adoption and debated on the report took place on Monday September 21.
MP Mabuza made his submissions before the August House, reporting on what his committee found during their investigation on the institution in question. Mabuza said his committee found a lot of maladministration, corruption and anomalies at ECESWA and the committee’s findings were outrageous.
However, upon completion his submission a number of MPs stood up with point of orders and most of them expressed their dissatisfaction mentioning that the committee’s work was half cooked as to the end of their report they should have provided strong recommendations. The lawmakers asked the committee to go back and redo the report as they have omitted a lot of information that was necessary to expose.
One Honourable Member called the accused officials by their names and Speaker Petros Mavimbela was quick to call the members to order and not mention any names when debating. Mavimbela’s ruling did not sit well with most of the MPs on why not list the wrong doers by their names because after all the report bore those names. However, Mavimbela insisted that the MPs should not call any of the accused by the names.
The lawmakers said the report somehow lacked substance as it was supposed to break down even the obstacles the committee met on while probing the examination council.
Motshane Member of Parliament Robert Magongo who was the one who raised the motion on probing the examinations council, was also dissatisfied with the report as it could not give exclusive recommendation at the end.
Endzingeni Member of Parliament Lutfo Dlamini said he is worried about the safety of the whistle-blowers as they should be protected to victimization.
