Mbabane : Two male suspects are expected to appear in court tomorrow following their arrest by Lavumisa police in connection with the murder of an 81-year-old woman from Qomintaba.
The suspects, aged 26 and 34, both from Qomintaba, were arrested and charged after the elderly woman died on April 25, 2026, from complications arising from an alleged assault.
According to information released by the Royal Eswatini Police Service, the incident dates back to March 30, when the elderly woman reportedly wandered out of her home during the night. She was allegedly found by the suspects on the road in a dazed state. It is alleged that the two accused then accused her of practicing witchcraft before assaulting her all over the body using an unknown object. She sustained injuries to the head and body.
The victim was initially rushed to Matsanjeni Health Centre and was later transferred to Hlathikhulu Government Hospital, where she was admitted for two weeks. She was discharged on April 15, 2026.
Police said she later died on April 25 due to complications linked to the injuries she sustained during the assault.
A post-mortem examination was conducted as part of the investigation, which subsequently led to the arrest of the two suspects.
The accused are scheduled to make their first court appearance tomorrow.
