MBABANE – A 45 year old man from Malanti was fatally wounded on February 10, 2026, after allegedly attacking a police officer who had responded to a domestic violence report.
According to a statement from the Royal Eswatini Police Service, Mbabane police received a report of a contravention of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Act in which the suspect was said to be violently attacking family members. Officers were dispatched to the scene to intervene.
On arrival, the attending officers attempted to calm the situation and apprehend the suspect. Instead of cooperating, the man allegedly turned on one of the officers. He reportedly stabbed the police officer on the head and on both hands with a knife and attempted to disarm him of his state issued firearm.
After the attack, the suspect fled into a nearby mountain. Police fired several warning shots as he ran into the bush but he managed to evade arrest.
Police, assisted by members of the community, launched a search operation in the surrounding bushes. When the suspect was later located, he allegedly attempted to attack again. During the confrontation, he was fatally wounded.
The injured police officer was rushed to hospital and is currently receiving medical attention.
