WINDHOEK — President Netumbo Nandi Ndaitwah of Namibia has dismissed what her office describes as misleading allegations circulating online and in print media regarding her family’s alleged control of the oil and gas sector.
According to a statement issued by the Namibian Presidency, the response follows an article titled “President under fire for ‘family oil interest’,” written by Mr Eliaser Ndeyanale and Mr Martin Endjala and published in The Namibian newspaper on 3 February 2026, as well as claims attributed to Ms Jemima Beukes.
“With respect to the article headlined ‘President under fire for ‘family oil interest’,’ written by Mr. Eliaser Ndeyanale and Mr. Martin Endjala and published in The Namibian newspaper on 3 February 2026, as well as the allegations attributed to Ms. Jemima Beukes, I state categorically and without reservation that my children have no interests, direct or indirect, in the oil and gas sector,” President Nandi Ndaitwah said.
She called on the journalists involved to either retract the statement and issue a public apology or provide what she described as credible and verifiable evidence to support the claims.
“I therefore require that the journalist concerned retract the statement and issue a public apology, or, in the alternative, present credible and verifiable evidence to substantiate the allegations,” she said.
The Namibian leader further stated that her children, like all Namibian citizens, are entitled to participate in the economy within the limits of the law. “For the record, like any Namibian citizen, my children have the full and equal right to participate in the country’s economy. They do so to contribute to national development, the well being of our people, and their own lawful livelihoods. We will not be faulted for exercising this right as long as it is done within the confines of the law,” President Nandi Ndaitwah said.
