Mbabane – Eight artisans from across Eswatini will represent the country at the Surajkund Mela Crafts Fair in India, scheduled to take place from 31 January to 15 February 2026.

The artisans, drawn from Manzini Market, Makhungutja and Kandinda Cooperatives, Master Artworks and Wooden Eswatini based in Lobamba, as well as Soap Stone from Enkhaba, will showcase locally made crafts at one of India’s most recognised cultural fairs.

On Tuesday 27 January 2026, the group met with the Principal Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce Industry and Trade, Ambassador Melusi Masuku, ahead of their departure. The meeting served as a farewell and a moment of guidance as the artisans prepared to travel abroad under the Eswatini India cultural and trade cooperation.

Masuku spoke about the continued relationship between Eswatini and India, noting that the invitation extended to local artisans reflects trust built over time.

“I am happy for the strong relationship between Eswatini and India, and grateful that our artisans have been invited again due to their good behaviour. Remember to respect yourselves and the country you are visiting, as Emaswati are known for respect. Even if offended or wrongly accused, maintain your cool at all times. Ensure your craft meets the highest standard so you can sell without hindrance. The Government of Eswatini supports you fully, and I wish you safe travels and a peaceful return home.”

The Surajkund Mela Crafts Fair attracts artisans from around the world and provides a platform for cultural exchange, market access and exposure to international buyers. For Eswatini’s participants, the fair offers an opportunity to present traditional craftsmanship while exploring trade prospects beyond local borders.
