Court dismisses exhumation bid in body mix-up case

Mbabane – High Court judge Sabelo Masuku has dismissed an urgent application by Sibongile Nkambule seeking to exhume the body of Lindiwe Doris Nkambule from Mavula.

The application followed a discovery during a night vigil that the body in the coffin, scheduled for burial on Sunday morning, was not that of their late relative.

The corpse was reportedly that of an elderly woman from Dvokolwako, whose body was allegedly swapped with Lindiwe Nkambule’s. It later emerged that Lindiwe Nkambule had already been buried on Saturday in Dvokolwako.

The court ruled that the family failed to clearly establish their legal right to the remains of their grandmother, Lindiwe Nkambule. Another hurdle was that Tswelopelo Funeral Services had not confirmed the mistaken swap of the bodies.
