Mbabane – Rising Eswatini music duo N Kay & Smally have launched 2026 with the release of their new single Langa Lami, blending Afro-pop with traditional sounds and carrying a message of faith, perseverance, and self-belief. The song is both a prayer for success and a declaration that the artists are ready to take centre stage.

Interview with N Kay & Smally

Congratulations on your first release of 2026. How does it feel starting the year with Langa Lami?
Thank you. Kicking off the year with Langa Lami feels like a dream come true. At the beginning of every year, people carry wishes and hopes for what they want to achieve. With this song, we are personally declaring and wishing for a prosperous time ahead.

What does the title “Langa Lami” mean, and why was it important for you to lead with this song?
Langa Lami means “it’s our time to succeed,” despite all the doubts. We chose to lead with this song to set the tone for the year to announce that we’re here, we’re confident, and we’re owning our moment.

How would you describe the sound and message of Langa Lami to someone hearing it for the first time?
The song blends Afro-pop with traditional elements, creating a tribal-inspired sound. The message is raw and spiritual; it’s a prayer asking for success and breakthrough.

How did the idea for Langa Lami come about?
The song was written during a moment of reflection. We looked back at where we come from and how many people didn’t believe in us. Langa Lami became a prayer for success, a declaration that doubt won’t define our journey. We wanted to create something that would resonate with anyone facing similar challenges.

What did each artist bring to the song that made it special?
TNS Savvy sent us the beat, and it immediately stirred deep emotions. From there, we built melodies and later added the lyrics. The collaboration allowed us to fully express ourselves and make a strong statement together.

The official artwork reflects strong cultural elements. What story were you trying to tell visually?
The artwork represents breaking free from expectations. It reflects our commitment to maintaining and embracing our culture in everything we do.

How important is it for you to showcase culture and identity through your music and visuals?
Showcasing Swazi culture is very important to us. We want our work to inspire others from similar backgrounds and remind them that their identity is powerful.

Should fans expect a music video, and if so, what can they look forward to?
Langa Lami was released with a visualizer. Going forward, fans can expect more music from us as N Kay & Smally throughout the year, as well as more exciting features.

What kind of response are you hoping for from fans?
We hope the song empowers people to push past doubt and believe in themselves.

How has the reaction been so far since announcing the release?
The response has been humbling. People are really resonating with the song. Just a week after release, it reached over 1,500 sound users on TikTok, which shows how deeply people relate to it.

Where would you love to hear Langa Lami being played—clubs, radio, weddings, or festivals?
We want it everywhere, clubs, festivals, radio anywhere people need motivation and a boost of energy.

Is Langa Lami a taste of a bigger project coming in 2026?
It’s definitely a taste of more beautiful music to come. We can’t say it’s a specific project just yet, but we’re working on bigger things.

Can fans expect more collaborations this year?
Yes, definitely. We’re working on collaborations with artists who share our vibe. We believe collaboration is power.

What goals have you set for yourselves musically this year?
Our goal is to make noise, push boundaries, and prove the doubters wrong.

Lastly, what message do you have for fans supporting your journey?
We’re truly thankful to everyone who believes in us. Our fans are the reason we keep going, and we appreciate the support more than words can express.
