Accra – The Ghana Tourism Authority has opened its 2026 stakeholder engagement programme with a high level meeting aimed at strengthening collaboration across the tourism sector.
The meeting took place on Monday, 12 January 2026, in Accra and brought together hospitality operators, tour operators, event promoters, cultural and heritage practitioners, and allied service providers from across Ghana’s tourism value chain. Senior officials from the Authority were also present, including all three Deputy Chief Executive Officers, directors and top management from the head office.
GTA Chief Executive Officer Maame Efua Houadjeto told stakeholders that the Authority was shifting towards more structured and consistent engagement with industry players throughout 2026, noting that sustained cooperation remained central to the sector’s progress.
She said tourism growth depended on collective effort and regular dialogue, adding that the Authority intended to work more closely with operators to align priorities and strengthen professionalism within the industry.
Houadjeto indicated that training and capacity building would take centre stage this year, with programmes designed to improve service delivery, operational standards and visitor experience across the country. She said upgrading skills at all levels was necessary to protect the national tourism brand and remain competitive on the global stage.
Reflecting on recent gains, the CEO pointed to the December in GH initiative as proof of what could be achieved through joint public and private sector action. She said the focus for 2026 would be on consolidating those gains and moving from short term momentum to long term sustainability.
Key priorities outlined during the engagement included further structuring December in GH into a year round tourism economy, strengthening heritage and cultural tourism, expanding domestic tourism, enforcing standards and compliance, and encouraging innovation through partnerships.
