Dar es Salaam – China and Tanzania have agreed to deepen their longstanding diplomatic and development cooperation following talks held in Dar es Salaam on January 10. The discussions took place during a meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said the relationship between the two countries is rooted in a shared history shaped by earlier generations of leaders. He described the bond as enduring despite changing international circumstances.
President Hassan asked Wang to convey New Year greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping and expressed appreciation for China’s continued support for Tanzania’s development under the Forum on China Africa Cooperation. She reiterated Tanzania’s commitment to the one China principle and said her government is ready to align its development plans with China’s priorities.
Hassan outlined areas for expanded cooperation, including practical development initiatives, the revitalisation of the Tanzania Zambia Railway, construction of a regional prosperity belt, stronger inter party relations and broader people to people exchanges. She said these efforts are aimed at boosting economic growth and delivering benefits to citizens of both countries. She also welcomed the global initiatives proposed by President Xi and said Tanzania is prepared to work with China in advancing a fairer and more equitable global governance system.
Wang conveyed President Xi’s greetings and said China places high value on relations with Tanzania at both party and state level. He said Beijing is ready to implement agreements reached by the two heads of state, deepen cooperation on governance experience, expand people to people ties and advance the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
China also expressed support for Tanzania’s sovereignty, independence and chosen development path. Wang said both countries should promote quality cooperation and transform the revitalised Tanzania Zambia Railway into a driver of regional development. He added that China supports Tanzania’s growing role in regional and international affairs and is willing to work with it and other developing nations to promote peace, stability and global progress.
