Johannesburg – The MK Party has dismissed Treasurer-General Mpiyakhe Limba and Chief Whip Colleen Makhubele, replacing them with new appointees amid concerns over financial management. Brian Molefe, a sitting Member of Parliament, has been named the new Treasurer-General, while Mmabatho Mokoena-Zondi of the National Council of Provinces has been appointed acting Chief Whip.
The party cited a series of financial missteps under Limba’s leadership, including unapproved transfers from provincial accounts, failure to raise funds, and a lack of financial discipline. In a letter dated 8 January 2026, MK Party President Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma outlined that Limba admitted to lacking qualifications in finance and treasury work and highlighted unresolved issues from previous fundraising initiatives.
Makhubele’s removal takes effect immediately after a brief tenure as Chief Whip. In a separate development, Chief of Staff Vanessa Calvert has had her suspension lifted following earlier allegations of financial irregularities.
The reshuffle aims to stabilize the party’s finances and restore accountability within its parliamentary structures and provincial branches. Zuma’s communication stressed the urgency of correcting past errors to protect the party’s operations and integrity.
