Manzini – Man of the match Mancoba Vilakati celebrated his decisive goal as Mbabane Swallows edged Mbabane Highlanders 1 nil in the Mbabane Derby at the Mavuso Sports Centre on Sunday. Vilakati, who earned E2 500 for his performance, said he plans to share the prize with his teammates.
Speaking to Eswatini TV after the match, Vilakati described the victory as a fresh start for the team and stressed the importance of focusing on the present rather than past results.
“We forgot everything else today and just focused on playing the derby. We hold the bragging rights,” he said.
He added that despite the challenges of the game, including a red card earlier in the second half, Swallows remained determined to secure the win.
“Even with a red card, we pushed and made sure we came away with the three points,” Vilakati said.
Looking ahead to their next fixture against Nsingizini Hotspurs, he said the team will take it one game at a time.
“They’re a strong team, but so are we. We’ll give it our all and focus on the present,” he said.
Vilakati also reflected on the team’s performance over past seasons, noting that this derby win provides a major boost and a chance to build momentum for the challenges ahead.
“This is a major booster. We approach each game as a fresh page, and today showed us we can compete at the top level,” he said.
He thanked supporters for their backing and promised more effort in upcoming matches.
