Mbabane – The Ministry of Health has announced a precautionary recall of a specific batch of Nestlé infant formula sold in Eswatini after being alerted to a potential food safety risk. The public statement was issued by the Ministry of Health on January 9, 2026, informing emaSwati of the affected product and the steps being taken to protect infants.
The recall affects NAN Special Pro HA 800g for babies aged between zero and 12 months, batch number 51660742F3. The ministry said the move follows a global recall by Nestlé over concerns about the possible presence of cereulide, a toxin that can pose a food safety risk.
Local retailers across the country have been contacted and instructed to remove the affected batch from their shelves. Parents and caregivers who have bought NAN Special Pro HA 800g are being urged to check the batch number on the container to confirm whether it matches the recalled batch.
Consumers who discover that they have the affected product have been advised to stop feeding it to their babies immediately and to seek an alternative in consultation with a medical practitioner. The ministry further directed that the affected formula be returned to the retailer, who will then contact the Environmental Health Department for proper disposal.
The Ministry of Health noted that the recall applies only to NAN Special Pro HA 800g with batch number 51660742F3. Nestlé has indicated that it has not received any reports of illness linked to babies consuming the specified formula and has assured the public that all other baby food products remain safe for consumption.
