Fulham and Liverpool shared the spoils in a dramatic 2 2 Premier League draw at Craven Cottage on Sunday evening, with two stoppage time goals turning the match on its head and leaving both sides with a point.
The match, watched closely by football fans in Eswatini following Liverpool’s title challenge this season, saw Fulham rescue a draw through a stunning long range strike by substitute Harrison Reed deep into added time.
Fulham took the lead in the 17th minute when Harry Wilson finished calmly from the left side of the box after being played through by Raúl Jiménez. The goal was initially ruled out for offside but was later awarded following a VAR review, confirming Wilson had been kept onside by Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool dominated possession for large spells of the first half but struggled to break down the hosts. Cody Gakpo came close on several occasions, while Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai probed from midfield without reward. Fulham went into the break leading 1 0.
After the restart, Liverpool increased the tempo and forced Fulham deeper. Gakpo and Szoboszlai both went close, while Mac Allister struck the crossbar with a header from a corner. The breakthrough arrived in the 57th minute when Florian Wirtz swept home from inside the box after a pass from Conor Bradley. The goal also required a VAR check before being awarded, with Issa Diop shown to have played Wirtz onside.
Fulham remained dangerous on the counter, with Wilson hitting the crossbar and Raúl Jiménez forcing Alisson Becker into a rushed clearance. As the match moved into added time, Liverpool appeared to have secured victory when Gakpo scored from close range in the 94th minute after meeting a Jeremie Frimpong cross.
The home crowd was stunned moments later when Harrison Reed, who had come on as a substitute, collected the ball outside the box and unleashed a powerful right footed strike into the top corner in the 97th minute, leaving Alisson with no chance and sparking celebrations inside Craven Cottage.
The result keeps Liverpool fourth on the Premier League table with 34 points, a position keenly followed by local supporters in the Kingdom, while Fulham moved up to 11th place, extending their unbeaten run to five matches.
The match ended with Fulham registering eight shots to Liverpool’s ten, while both sides managed two shots on target in a contest defined by late drama and VAR interventions rather than clear dominance.
