Leeds United and Manchester United settled for a 1 1 draw in a Premier League clash played at a packed Elland Road on Sunday afternoon, as two second half goals arrived within three minutes to decide the contest.
The match, watched closely by football fans in Eswatini following the English top flight, saw Leeds extend their unbeaten run to seven league matches, while Manchester United made it three games without defeat.
Leeds were the more threatening side in the opening half, creating the clearest chance when Dominic Calvert Lewin glanced a fine header from Anton Stach’s cross onto the outside of the post in the 36th minute. Manchester United responded late in the half through Casemiro and Leny Yoro, forcing goalkeeper Lucas Perri into a sharp save to keep the score level at the break.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 62nd minute when Brenden Aaronson capitalised on a loose ball played forward by Leeds. The American midfielder outpaced Ayden Heaven before calmly guiding his shot into the far corner to send the home crowd into celebration.
Manchester United responded swiftly. Just 174 seconds later, substitute Joshua Zirkzee threaded a well weighted pass into the area for Matheus Cunha. Leeds goalkeeper Lucas Perri rushed off his line but failed to deal with the danger, allowing Cunha to slide the ball home for the equaliser in the 65th minute.
The visitors pushed for a winner late on, with Cunha striking the post after a flowing move involving Zirkzee and Benjamin Sesko, while Leeds threatened from set pieces and long throws in the closing stages. Anton Stach fired high from distance in stoppage time as Leeds searched for a dramatic finish.
Both managers made several substitutions as the tempo dipped in the final minutes, but neither side could find a decisive goal. The referee brought proceedings to a close after four added minutes, confirming a share of the spoils in one of English football’s long standing rivalries.
