Mbabane — The Governor of the Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE) Dr. Phil Mnisi has urged EmaSwati to exercise financial discipline and heightened vigilance during the festive season, warning that increased spending pressures and rising scam activity often place households at risk at this time of year.

In his festive season message, Mnisi reminded citizens that while the holidays are a period of joy and family togetherness, they also demand careful financial decision-making to safeguard hard-earned income.

“Holidays bring families together, but they can also bring financial pressures. I encourage all EmaSwati to protect their money during this busy time of the year. Every Lilangeni you earn represents hard work, sacrifice and commitment to living a better life,” Mnisi said.

He cautioned against overspending and falling victim to scams that are often disguised as lucrative opportunities. He encouraged consumers to pause before making purchases and reflect on whether the expense is truly necessary.

“Do not lose your money through spending more than you have, or through scams disguised as opportunities. Before you spend, pause and ask yourselfIs this really necessary? Will I be happy with this choice when I reflect in January?” Mnisi remarked.

He further warned that the festive season is typically marked by increased criminal activity, including fraud and scams perpetrated by boFacata.

“These scams have cost many EmaSwati thousands of their hard-earned money,” Mnisi said, adding that the public should never share personal banking details.

“Your PIN, passwords and banking information belong only to you, not your friends, relatives, and certainly not to anyone calling or messaging you.”

Reaffirming the institution’s mandate, Mnisi said CBE remains committed to safeguarding Eswatini’s financial system, stressing that its protection begins with responsible individual choices.

“Protecting the financial system begins with each LiSwati making wise financial decisions every day,” he said.
