Johannesburg – A close friend and business associate of slain DJ and entrepreneur Warwick “Warras” Stock has spoken out about his murder.
In an interview with Eye Witness News, Nicole Nelson described Warras as a solution-focused and fearless man. She said that while he actively implemented a blueprint to restore hijacked buildings in Johannesburg’s CBD and improve safety for occupants, he upset some within organised crime networks.
Nelson explained that Warras, who owned a security company, spent years building his reputation in the private security sector after starting under established companies. His focus later shifted to specialised protection services for high-profile clients, while also addressing the growing problem of hijacked buildings in the CBD.
According to Nelson, Warras was contracted to regulate a hijacked building owned by a private family. His mandate included auditing occupants, identifying health and safety violations, and refurbishing the property without displacing tenants. The aim was to create safer and more dignified living conditions, particularly for women and children.
She revealed that his work faced strong resistance, including repeated acts of sabotage such as deliberate pipe bursts and interference with utilities. Nelson said these actions were intended to frustrate Warras’ efforts and were linked to illegal activities allegedly taking place in the building.
During the audit process, Nelson said they uncovered disturbing conditions, including illegal wiring, unsafe living arrangements, and hidden spaces that made it difficult to account for all occupants. She further alleged that some individuals were unlawfully collecting rent, while other criminal activities, including small-scale drug manufacturing, were suspected.
Nelson said Warras later applied for protection orders against certain individuals connected to the building as tensions escalated.
On the circumstances surrounding his killing, Nelson said the incident did not resemble random violence. She stressed that he was on duty in his professional capacity and that the murder should be treated as a targeted attack rather than a crime of opportunity.
Nelson expressed confidence that the case would eventually be solved and called for those responsible to face the full force of the law. She said accountability was essential not only for justice but also to protect the legacy of Warras’ work.
She confirmed that the mission to restore hijacked buildings and create safe environments would continue in his name, with the ultimate goal of rebuilding communities and restoring dignity one building at a time.
