Mbabane – Dr Mandlenkhosi Dlamini has retained his position as the chairperson of the Small Enterprises Development Company (SEDCO) board. Dr. Dlamini’s reappointment was announced by Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo on Wednesday.

Khumalo said that Dr Dlamini will return to office as SEDCO board chairperson armed with vast experience and institutional knowledge after having served in the role over the past three years. Dr Dlamini holds a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction Design.

The minister said the newly appointed SEDCO board will serve a three year term, adding that continuity in leadership was key to ensuring the parastatal delivers on its mandate of developing small and medium enterprises.

Khumalo also announced the appointment of Beauty Mavuso to the board. Mavuso is also returning for a second term and is an accountant by profession. She holds an ACCA qualification. The minister said Mavuso brings strong professional experience and financial expertise to the board.

Other members appointed to govern SEDCO affairs include the chief executive officer, Khetsiwe Dlamini, who will serve as secretary of the board, and Mluleki Dlamini, the Director of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Speaking after the announcement, Dr Dlamini thanked the minister for the confidence shown in the board, saying their reappointment was a clear vote of confidence in their leadership.

“As a board, we are committed to working tirelessly to ensure that His Majesty’s vision of seeing SEDCO produce billionaires is realised,” said Dr Dlamini.

He said His Majesty King Mswati III had tasked SEDCO with ensuring that small and medium enterprises are developed, nurtured and grown to the level of attaining billionaire status, also known as Bosontonzima. This directive was issued by His Majesty on 7 November during this year’s Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

Dr Dlamini further appealed to the ministry for increased funding to enable SEDCO to refurbish its estates across the country. He said the estates were critical infrastructure that would help the organisation meet its mammoth mandate of supporting entrepreneurs.

“These estates are key to ensuring that we provide the necessary support and facilities to SMEs so that they can grow and thrive,” said Dlamini.

He also praised the SEDCO CEO, Dlamini, for what he described as her immaculate leadership skills, noting that strong management was essential for the success of the organisation’s vision and programmes.
