Mbabane – A 22 year old man from Motjane in the Hhohho Region has been sentenced for physically assaulting his cousin during a heated argument on December 10, 2025.
The man was charged under Section 77(1)(a) of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Act No. 15 of 2018. Court documents state that he assaulted the complainant with open hands, fists and kicks multiple times, causing harm and placing her safety and health at risk.
The accused was informed of his constitutional rights and pleaded guilty to the charge. During mitigation, he told the court he acted in anger following a misunderstanding, expressed regret, and asked for leniency. He noted that he is a first offender, has a child in school, and had apologised to the complainant.
Considering his guilty plea, remorse, and personal circumstances, the court convicted him as charged. He was ordered to pay a fine of E5,000 or serve five years in prison. Of this, E3,000 is suspended for three years on condition that he is not convicted of a similar offence under the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Act during the suspension period.
