Turkmenistan – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has called on countries across the world to draw lessons from Eswatini’s guiding philosophy of Anginasitsa, meaning I have no enemy, first articulated by the late King Sobhuza the Second.
He was speaking on behalf of His Majesty King Mswati the Third during the official opening of an international forum marking the International Year of Peace and Trust, the International Day of Neutrality and the thirtieth anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality. The gathering brought together heads of state and government from several regions, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and leaders from Türkiye, Iraq, Iran, Central Asia, the Caucasus and Africa, alongside prime ministers from Pakistan, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Myanmar.
Addressing the forum under the theme Peace and Trust Unity of Goals for a Sustainable Future, the Prime Minister drew parallels between Turkmenistan’s constitutional neutrality and Eswatini’s long standing diplomatic outlook.
Dlamini said Anginasitsa formed the core of Swazi statecraft, reflecting a commitment to regard no nation as an enemy, to refrain from initiating aggression and to ensure Eswatini’s territory is never used to harm others. He said disputes should always be settled through dialogue and mutual respect, describing the approach as active engagement with the world rather than withdrawal.
He told delegates that Eswatini saw Turkmenistan’s neutrality as a mirror of its own philosophy, with both nations reaching a shared understanding that global peace is strengthened when states choose not to inflame conflict but to stand firm for dialogue.
The Prime Minister said conflicts produce no real winners and that alternatives to war must always be pursued. He noted that while disputes were becoming more frequent globally, dialogue, negotiation and perseverance remained the only viable responses.
He said Eswatini carried these principles into its multilateral relations, guided by honesty, integrity and respect for sovereign equality. According to Dlamini, participation in international forums should never be about following the majority for convenience, but about remaining faithful to national interests and values.
Looking ahead, he said the Kingdom of Eswatini would uphold these ideals as it prepares to assume the chairmanship of the Southern African Development Community Organ Troika on Politics Defence and Security Cooperation, where it intends to promote African led solutions, preventive diplomacy and dialogue in line with the objectives of the forum and relevant United Nations General Assembly resolutions.
Dlamini said Eswatini continued to believe that lasting peace is built when nations choose trust over suspicion, dialogue over division and friendship over enmity.
