Johannesburg – The Border Management Authority (BMA) has rolled out intensified security measures at key ports of entry ahead of the 2025/2026 festive season. Commissioner Dr Michael Masiapato outlined a multi-layered approach during the official launch on 7 December, aimed at ensuring safe and efficient cross-border movement.
The initiative includes increased law enforcement presence, strengthened immigration and health checks, joint operations with border agencies, and expanded surveillance in high-risk areas. These measures target safe travel while maintaining smooth trade and lawful crossings.
Commissioner Masiapato will personally oversee operations at several critical points. He will visit the Ficksburg Port of Entry on 18 December and Maseru Bridge on 19 December to inspect operational readiness, assess vulnerabilities, and offer support to on-duty personnel.
From 21 to 25 December, he will be at the Lebombo Port of Entry, one of the busiest land crossings, to manage peak-period operations and coordinate with cross-border counterparts. Early January sees the Commissioner at Beitbridge from 2 to 5 January to monitor return-leg traffic, which traditionally surges after the holidays, ensuring adequate staffing and smooth processing.
