Mbabane – Eswatini boxer, Mukelo Dlamini, has stormed onto the global boxing stage after winning his opening bout at the IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships in Dubai, instantly securing approximately E170 000 in prize money.
His victory keeps Eswatini’s hopes alive at a tournament where many regional fighters have already struggled.

The 57kg Eswatini fighter outclassed Rwanda’s Haviyarimana Abdul with a composed, confident and technically superior performance that saw him control the centre of the ring from the opening bell. Dlamini’s sharp footwork, crisp jab and disciplined counter punching repeatedly frustrated his opponent and earned him the judges’ unanimous approval.

By the final round it was evident that Dlamini had done more than enough, and when the scorecards confirmed his win he lifted his gloves in celebration, knowing he had advanced to the next stage while also securing a significant financial reward.

The stakes rise sharply as the championships progress, with more than US$8.3 million up for grabs across all divisions. Each victory now becomes a gateway to potentially life changing earnings, and Dlamini will return to the ring later today in pursuit of an even higher payday that could place Eswatini boxing on a historic path.

His performance stands out in a demanding global contest and has provided a major boost for the national contingent.
