Ngwenya – Environmental Health Officers have intensified food safety inspections in Ngwenya and surrounding areas as the festive season approaches, focusing on shops that sell food in bulk to ensure consumer protection.
The joint inspection conducted this week sought to confirm that all food items available to the public meet national safety and quality standards. Authorities noted that with many people buying in large quantities during this period, compliance is especially important.
In recent weeks, similar operations were carried out in Mantabeni, Siphocosini, Madlangemphisi and Buhleni, where officers confiscated and disposed of expired goods, products without expiry dates or proper labels, and food re-packaged contrary to regulations.
Officials urged business owners to follow Eswatini’s food safety laws and prioritise customer health over profit. They cautioned that non-compliant businesses may face penalties or further enforcement action.
