Mbabane – Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, South Africa’s Minister of Electricity and Energy, is in Eswatini today for key discussions with His Royal Highness Prince Lonkhokhela, Minister of Natural Resources and Energy. The meeting, set to take place today, focuses on strengthening energy cooperation between the two countries amidst regional power challenges.
Eswatini, which heavily relies on South Africa’s Eskom for electricity and grid stability, has been working to address a growing gap between domestic power supply and demand. The high-level talks are part of an ongoing dialogue aimed at improving energy security and ensuring long-term sustainable power solutions.
A central theme of the discussions is the importance of regional collaboration in securing stable and affordable electricity for both nations. The meeting will also explore expanding cooperation into areas like knowledge-sharing, skills development, and investment in emerging energy technologies.
Key topics on the agenda include electricity infrastructure development, the outcomes of the G20 summit on Africa’s energy landscape, and the latest developments with the MOTRACO power transmission line. The ministers will also address broader energy issues in the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
On Saturday, 29 November, Dr. Ramokgopa and his delegation will visit the Prime Minister’s office for further discussions on regional energy priorities. The visit aims to lay the groundwork for joint initiatives that promote energy security, stabilize tariffs, and unlock investment in renewable energy solutions for both countries.
