MBABANE – Two women facing multiple counts of fraud returned to the Mbabane Magistrates Court where it was revealed that they have now repaid E138 000 of the money they allegedly defrauded from a local businesswoman.
The accused, Babazile Mamba (43) of Mpolonjeni and Lesang Gcebile Makhubu (38) of Ezulwini, are jointly charged with three counts of fraud involving falsified documents, fake invoices, and misrepresentations made to Kristina De La Flor.
According to the charge sheet, the women are alleged to have acted jointly in April 2023 with the intent to defraud and steal by presenting falsified documents, including, and a false claim that a student named Owethu Fisokuhle Dlamini owed tuition fees of E150 000, leading to an actual loss of E30 000 to De La Flor, a falsified invoice purportedly from Green Haven Apartments, inducing an additional loss of E16 000, a fake Deed of Sale for land at Hawane valued at E150 000, causing a further E190 000 loss.
During their previous appearance, the court had ordered the accused to raise the money and by that time, they had already paid E108 000. During their court appearance today, they presented an additional E30 000, bringing the total to E138 000.
Their attorney informed the court that further proof of payment would be brought on their next court appearance. The Crown did not oppose the postponement but emphasised that the attorney must honour his commitment, looking at the lengthy postponement period.
The Principal Magistrate Fikile Nhlabatsi postponed the matter to 3 February 2026 for the defence to submit all proof of payment.
