Manzini – The Good Shepherd Hospital emerged as one of the biggest winners at the 2025 Health Excellence Awards 2025, walking away with two top honours in recognition of its outstanding contribution to healthcare delivery in Eswatini.
The hospital secured the prestigious Best Regional Hospital Award, while Sister Andrew Jele claimed the title of Best Individual Contributing to Health Outcomes at Facility Level.
Good Shepherd topped the regional hospital category with an impressive aggregate score of 80.50%, outperforming strong contenders which are Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) and Mankayane Government Hospital. The award recognises excellence in patient care, facility performance, innovation, and commitment to national health standards.
The hospital’s second accolade came through the recognition of Sister Andrew Jele, whose dedication, compassion, and leadership earned him the individual excellence award, an uncontested category that highlighted his exceptional contribution to health outcomes within the facility.
In an interview after receiving her award, Jele expressed deep gratitude to the Ministry of Health for introducing an initiative that celebrates the men and women behind the country’s health system.
“We are truly grateful that the Ministry has created a platform to honour health workers. We work very hard every day saving lives, and this recognition motivates us to keep pushing,” he said.
Jele also extended appreciation to his colleagues across the country, acknowledging the collective effort required to tackle diseases and support patients.
“I want to appreciate all health workers for their dedication in fighting different diseases. The work we do requires unity, resilience, and compassion, and I am proud to be part of a team committed to the well-being of our people,” he added.
He further thanked the communities he serves, particularly those in underserved areas, describing them as a source of strength and inspiration
“We serve communities that sometimes face significant challenges, but their trust in us keeps us going. I am humbled and grateful for their support,” he said.
Good Shepherd’s double win reflects the hospital’s ongoing efforts to improve patient outcomes, elevate service standards, and uphold its long-standing reputation as one of the country’s leading health institutions. The awards also highlight the critical role of individual excellence in strengthening health systems, with Sister Jele’s recognition showing the impact of personal dedication within facility-level healthcare.
The 2025 Health Excellence Awards, hosted at The George Hotel, honoured the country’s top-performing facilities, programmes, and frontline workers, celebrating innovation, resilience, and quality service delivery across all regions.
