Mbabane – Ford’s plug in hybrid Ranger has secured the 2026 International Pickup of the Year Award, becoming the first hybrid model to claim the title and adding another milestone to a vehicle already popular in Southern Africa, including Eswatini where the Ranger is widely used by businesses and private motorists.
The current generation Ranger has been sold in several global markets for years, long before the updated version reached the United States for the 2024 model year. Since its launch, the model has collected numerous distinctions, among them the 2024 International Pickup of the Year Award. The plug in hybrid version recently achieved Best Pickup in the 2026 Parkers Van and Pickup Awards, strengthening its reputation before earning this latest global recognition.

The jury for the 2026 award consisted of 23 automotive journalists who subjected the competing pickups to rigorous on road and off road testing. The panel noted the Ranger PHEV’s fuel efficiency and ability to drive with zero emissions while maintaining capability expected from a work oriented pickup.
Jarlath Sweeney, Chairperson of the International Van of the Year and International Pickup of the Year jury, said the Ranger PHEV delivers strong performance and reduced fuel costs through a system that blends a 2.3 litre EcoBoost petrol engine with a 75 kW battery motor. Its engineering offers drivers a choice between petrol, electric or combined driving modes.

The Ranger PHEV delivers 281 PS, produces 697 Nm of torque and can tow up to 3 500 kg, which the jury noted does not compromise the durability or hardworking character associated with the Ranger name.
Ford Pro Europe General Manager Hans Schep said the company is proud that the plug in hybrid model has received the award, particularly after the recognition earned by the all new Ranger in 2024. He said the award reflects ongoing innovation within the Ranger lineage.
