Luanda, Angola – President Cyril Ramaphosa, accompanied by Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola, has arrived in Angola to participate in the 7th African Union-European Union Summit, which opened today and will conclude on Tuesday.
The summit gathers leaders from the African Union and European Union to strengthen political and economic relations amid global challenges including ongoing conflicts, threats to peace and security, and rising unilateralism in international affairs.
South Africa, under Ramaphosa’s leadership, recently concluded the 2025 G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, where the AU and EU played a key role in reaching consensus on global economic and social issues. At the AU-EU summit, South Africa will seek support from the EU for the Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan of the AU Agenda 2063.
Two plenary thematic sessions will guide discussions. The first focuses on peace, security, governance, and multilateralism, while the second addresses prosperity, migration, and mobility.
The summit is hosted by Angolan President João Lourenço as Chairperson of the AU, with Mahmoud Ali Youssouf serving as Chairperson of the AU Commission. European leaders attending include President of the European Council António Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and heads of state from Denmark, France, Hungary, Croatia, Spain, the Czech Republic, Italy, Finland, Poland, Slovakia, Portugal, Ireland, and Germany.
From the Chikala Waterfront Conference Centre in Luanda, Ramaphosa delivered remarks on deepening AU-EU cooperation at a time of mounting global uncertainties.
