Maseru – Lesotho has taken a major step towards positioning itself as a leading tourism hub in Africa with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Ministry of Tourism of Lesotho and the African Tourism Board. The agreement, signed today, is set to transform the Kingdom into a key player in the continent’s tourism industry.
The partnership is expected to drive job creation, support small businesses, and strengthen the country’s hospitality sector. It also aims to promote Basotho culture, foster creativity, and raise Lesotho’s profile on the global tourism map.
Lesotho’s picturesque snow-capped mountains, high-altitude terrain, and rich cultural heritage make it a prime destination for tourists. Tourism officials are optimistic that the agreement will help showcase these unique features and draw international visitors to the Kingdom.
Khereng Khereng, a Lesotho diplomat stationed in Berlin, Germany, called for urgent action to ensure the success of the partnership. He urged both state and non-state actors to work together in securing investment for the sector, which he believes can have a transformative impact on the country’s economy and livelihoods across Africa.
