Madvubeni – A 30 year old man from Madvubeni is facing charges under the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Act of 2018 after he was taken into custody for allegedly assaulting a six year old girl he had been left to care for.
Police in Siphofaneni said the incident happened on 18 November 2025 when the child and her twin sister were placed under the man’s supervision while their grandparents attended church services. Officers reported that the man, who is their uncle, allegedly abused the young girl while her twin sister was present.
The matter surfaced two days later when the twin sister questioned her grandmother about why the man had not been taken away by the police. The grandmother sought clarity, and the child recounted what had happened, adding that she had learned at school that such conduct is a crime.
The family contacted the police immediately. Officers attended the homestead without delay and took the suspect into custody. He is expected to appear before the Big Bend Magistrates Court on Monday.
Police urged communities across the country to remain vigilant and to report any concerns relating to the safety of children.
