Johannesburg, South Africa – President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, who also chairs the Southern African Development Community, hosted a working dinner for African Heads of State and Government on 21 November 2025, bringing together leaders from continental bodies and regional economic communities ahead of the G20 Summit.
The dinner focused on boosting economic integration, strengthening trade and investment, and promoting peace and security as key drivers for Africa’s growth. Ramaphosa called for Africa’s development priorities to take a central role in global economic discussions, citing the continent’s increasing influence since the African Union became a permanent G20 member two years ago.
SADC Executive Secretary Elias M. Magosi attended the gathering, representing the region’s commitment to collective economic progress. Ramaphosa spoke on initiatives under South Africa’s G20 presidency, including disaster resilience, debt sustainability, just energy transitions, and harnessing critical minerals for inclusive growth. He also welcomed the Ministerial Declaration on Debt Sustainability, aimed at addressing Africa’s rising debt challenges.
The discussions reinforced Africa’s stance on fair trade, inclusive prosperity, and reforming global governance. Leaders explored ways to use platforms like the G20 Africa Engagement Framework to strengthen the continent’s voice on financing for productive investment.
