Sandleni — History was made yesterday as the Ministry of Education officially launched New Nazareth High School, the first-ever secondary school in the Sandleni area, a breakthrough for learners who have long struggled to access education.
The launch was welcomed with excitement by the communities of Sandleni and Mtsambama, who said the new school would ease the burden of long walking distances, costly transport, and limited access to practical learning facilities. Community members said the development is expected to reduce school dropouts and open new opportunities for young people in the Shiselweni Region.
Hon. B. M. Nzima, Minister and Member of Parliament for Sandleni, officiated the launch and highlighted that the establishment of the high school would also benefit former dropouts who were previously kept away from school by transport challenges. He noted that with education now within reach, more young people are expected to return to the classroom.
The Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, through the Microprojects Programme, was commended for supporting the initiative. The Minister of Education further praised the unity and determination shown by the community in advocating for the school.
According to the Ministry, final site assessments are currently being conducted before construction begins. Microprojects has confirmed its readiness to commence works as soon as the site receives full approval.
New Nazareth High School is set to include secure learning facilities, teachers’ houses, and fully equipped Agriculture, Science, Food & Nutrition, and Vocational Departments ushering in what authorities describe as a new era of accessible and practical education for the people of Sandleni and surrounding areas.
