Ezulwini– The Examinations Council of Eswatini (ECESWA) has introduced a new results reporting system for the Eswatini Primary Certificate (EPC) examinations, a change in how Grade 7 learner performance will be assessed and presented starting with the 2025 examination cycle.
The new approach replaces the long-used class-based reporting method, which grouped candidates as Merit, First Class, Second Class, Third Class or Fail. ECESWA has now adopted a competency-based point scale aligned with the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum. The council says the new system provides a clearer picture of learners’ abilities and learning outcomes.
Under the updated reporting structure, EPC results will be graded as follows:
- Excellent: >4.74 – 6.00 (80–100)
- Very Good: >4.14 – 4.74 (70–79)
- Good: >3.94 – 4.14 (60–69)
- Fair: >2.94 – 3.94 (50–59)
- Sufficient: >2.34 – 2.94 (40–49)
- Insufficient: >0.00 – 2.34 (0–39)
ECESWA announced the change while confirming the smooth completion of the 2025 national examinations. The examination period began on 29 September with the Lower Secondary Checkpoint Assessment (LSCA) and ended on 14 November with the EPC French Paper 2. Junior Certificate (JC) and Eswatini General Certificate of Secondary Education (EGCSE) examinations were completed earlier, on 7 November.
Marking for the LSCA has been completed and results will be released next week following approval by the ECESWA Board. Marking for the EPC and JC examinations is set to begin on 24 November, after which results will undergo processing and review before being officially released by the Minister of Education and Training.
The marking of EGCSE and EPCSE examinations will commence on 8 December, with the release of those results expected in 2026 due to the grading and accreditation stages that follow.
ECESWA acknowledged the anxiety that often comes with waiting for results and appealed for calm among candidates, parents and schools. The council assured the public that they will be kept informed of any developments related to the release.
