Matsapha – His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) celebrated International Men’s Day at the Matsapha Correctional Centre (Maximum) today, focusing on men’s health, rehabilitation, and promoting positive masculinity among male offenders.
The event was led by Commissioner General LaMakhosini Phindile Dlamini, who thanked partners and stakeholders for their support in making the event a success. Among the senior leadership present were Deputy Commissioner General Bongani Khumalo, Commissioner Phindile Sibandze, Officer-in-Charge Assistant Commissioner Jabulani Kunene, and Senior Superintendent Mndeni Simelane, all reflecting the institution’s dedication to inmate development and wellness.

The programme aimed at encouraging personal growth and responsible behaviour included an uplifting sermon from Pastor Nhleko, who spoke on the theme “Rising Above Circumstances,” drawing lessons from II Samuel 9:1-8. He encouraged offenders to focus on their future rather than their current circumstances.
Lwazi Dube, a behavioural counsellor from Gentlemen’s Talk, also addressed the inmates, stressing the importance of accountability and transformation. He spoke on the long-term consequences of poor decision-making and highlighted the need for equal support for boys to help address societal imbalances.
Commissioner General Dlamini also acknowledged the contributions of sponsors, including Gentlemen’s Talk, Seneme’s Décor Services, and the LaMakhosini Foundation. As part of the celebrations, Gentlemen’s Talk donated toiletries to selected inmates as a gesture of goodwill.
