Pretoria – Brown Mogotsi, a man linked to South Africa’s Crime Intelligence, shared harrowing details of an alleged assassination attempt during his testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
Mogotsi told the commission that he narrowly escaped an attack on his life while driving along the N3 highway near Vosloorus on the East Rand in October. According to Mogotsi, gunmen in a white bakkie opened fire on his vehicle, with several bullets penetrating the car.
“I thought they could not find me,” Mogotsi recalled. “When they saw my car, they fired the shots. I managed to drive, because they were driving at a speed, and turn left on a particular street. Fortunately, they passed to go make a U-turn, that’s when I ran for my life.”
Mogotsi expressed concern over rumors suggesting that the attack might have been staged. “But before I could even make a statement, they were saying ‘this may be a staged assassination…’ and that’s what made me very worried,” he added.
