Mbabane – The Ministry of Finance officially launched the 2025 International Fraud Awareness Month on Friday, November 14, under the theme “Fraud Has No Boundaries: Guard Your Digital Wallet.”
Finance Minister Neal Rijkenberg said while the country has seen a slight drop in fraud-related losses in banks and FinTech services, online scams, e-commerce fraud, and impersonation cases continue to grow. He noted that as digital financial services expand, fraudsters are becoming increasingly sophisticated.
Rijkenberg outlined government plans to modernise financial regulations, strengthen cybersecurity, improve payment system resilience, and foster cooperation between banks, FinTechs, regulators, and law enforcement. He urged Emaswati to remain vigilant, noting that an informed public is a key defence against fraud.
“Fraud prevention is a shared responsibility. Question before you click, verify before you pay, and report before it is too late,” the Minister said.
The Ministry called on all stakeholders to work together to protect the integrity of Eswatini’s financial system during the awareness month.
